Meet the Candidates

For the 2022 NYS Elections, the Coalition to Restore New York™ has identified candidates who are committed to improving the lives of hardworking New Yorkers and keeping their constituents safe. 

The Coalition is proud to congratulate the following candidates who are moving onto the General Election in November!

Sen. Simcha Felder

(D, NYS Senate District 17)

Senator Felder was elected in November 2012 to represent the 17th Senate District which encompasses the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Midwood, Flatbush, Borough Park, Kensington, Sunset Park, Madison and Bensonhurst. Sen. Felder currently serves as Chairman of the Committee on Administrative Regulations Review Commission. Sen. Felder is committed to standing up for our law enforcement community and keeping his constituents safe.

Sen. Kevin Parker

(D, NYS Senate District 21)

Senator Parker was elected in 2002 to represent the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Flatbush, East Flatbush, Flatlands, Midwood, Ditmas Park, Kensington, Windsor Terrace, and Park Slope. A lifelong Brooklyn resident, Senator Parker has been a Flatbush resident for more than 31 years. Sen. Parker currently serves as Chairman of the Committee on Energy and Telecommunications. Sen. Parker is a champion of efforts to control gun violence, especially in communities of color.

Sen. Michelle Hinchey

(D, NYS Senate District 46)

Senator Hinchey represents New York’s 46th Senate District, which includes all of Greene and Montgomery counties, as well as parts of Ulster, Schenectady, and Albany County. Senator Hinchey was elected to the New York State Senate in 2020, making history as the youngest woman to represent an Upstate district in the Democratic Majority Conference. Senator Hinchey is focused on environmental protection and economic development. Since taking office, she has passed over thirty laws that brought Democrats and Republicans together to improve the quality of life for Upstate New Yorkers.

Sen. Anna Kaplan

(D, NYS Senate District 7)

Senator Kaplan represents the 7th Senate District, including the Northwest portion of Nassau County. She was elected in 2018 and has long been an advocate standing up for New York’s small business community. Sen. Kaplan currently serves as Chair of the Committee on Commerce, Economic Development and Small Business. Senator Kaplan has fought hard to fully fund public safety initiatives. Keeping her community safe is a top priority for Senator Kaplan, and she has delivered increased funding for law enforcement and community-based violence intervention programs.

Sen. Pete Harckham

(D, NYS Senate District 40)

Senator Harckham was elected to the Senate in November of 2018 representing the 40th Senate District. The 40th District includes portions of Dutchess County, Putnam County and Westchester County. Prior to his election, Senator Harckham has had a distinguished career in public service, most recently having served on the Westchester County Board of Legislators from 2008 – 2015. Senator Harckham is a lifelong resident of the Hudson Valley, having grown up in Rockland County. He will fight to keep communities safe with increased funding for law enforcement and gun violence interruption programs.

Iwen Chu

(D, NYS Senate District 17):

Iwen Chu is running for NYS Senate District 17, which includes the southern Brooklyn communities of Dyker Heights, Sunset Park, and Bensonhurst. Born and raised in Taiwan, Ms. Chu has dedicated herself to the communities of southern Brooklyn and planted roots with her husband and daughter in Dyker Heights. As a public-school parent, a community journalist, and a public servant, Ms. Chu has seen the infinite challenges that working families face every day. Ms. Chu is committed to prioritizing the issues that Southern Brooklyn families care about: a neighborhood that our children, our seniors, and our families can be proud of. Iwen is committed to improving public safety and combatting crime and anti-Asian attacks.

Sen. Joseph Addabbo

(D, NYS Senate District 15)

Senator Addabbo is a member of the New York State Senate representing the 15th district which includes Howard Beach, Ozone Park, Woodhaven, Glendale, Middle Village, Maspeth, Ridgewood, and Woodside. Senator Addabbo is currently the Chairman of the Committee on Racing, Gaming, and Wagering. He has served his community in the NYS Senate since 2009. Senator Addabbo is committed to enacting reforms that improve the protection of New Yorkers and make the criminal justice system more accountable for all residents.

Nathalia Fernandez

(D, NYS Senate District 34)

Nathalia Fernandez is running for NYS Senate District 34, including the neighborhoods of Throgs Neck, Co-Op City, and Pelham Bay. A daughter of immigrant parents, Ms. Fernandez was raised to understand the benefit of a strong work ethic. Ms. Fernandez currently serves her community as the Assemblymember for the 80th District and before that, was a member of the Executive Chamber, acting as Bronx regional representative to the Governor in 2017. She is committed to keeping her community safe and prioritizing public safety.
